About this event

Presented by: Douglas Watt, PhD

About the Webinar: Diseases of aging are posed to swamp the healthcare system in the context of profound demographic shifts in most technological societies, shifts where the long term health of aging cohorts has been seriously degraded by a systemic failure of ‘primary prevention’, most strikingly in the US. ‘Primary prevention’ is not defined by conventional notions of prevention (chasing risk biomarkers with statins and beta blockers for example) but in terms of lifestyle change, prioritizing and optimizing the four pillars of healthy living – being securely socially connected (vs socially isolated, traumatized or stressed), sleeping well, eating well, and moving a lot. The general failure of primary prevention and the explosion of ‘diabesity’ has meant a significant increase in age-related diseases, including an escalating risk for neurodegenerative disorders (NDD).
